Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy is the most reliably effective treatment for significant obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA).
While many patients quickly and successfully adapt to using CPAP to treat their OSA, a significant number of patients have early and/or ongoing teething problems using CPAP that precludes appropriate timely resolution of this significant medical sleep disorder. The reasons for this difficulty adapting successfully to CPAP therapy are varied and numerous but many are amenable to improvement.
We have established a CPAP Troubleshooting Clinic within the RPAH Sleep Disorders Clinic services where patients attend on an individual basis with a dedicated Clinical Nurse Consultant in consultation with a sleep medicine physician.
Many of the problems with using CPAP successfully can be overcome with this innovative approach.
Clinic attendance is by appointment and the sessions are scheduled on a weekly basis.
